Dr. Eliseo J. Pérez-Stable has emerged as a leading voice in health equity and minority health in the United States, combining scientific insight with a commitment to reducing disparities in health outcomes. From 2015 to 2025, he served as Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he shaped national research priorities and policy efforts to address systemic inequities in health and healthcare.

Dr. Pérez-Stable’s leadership at NIMHD focused on amplifying research on the causes of health disparities and translating findings into strategies that improve care for populations historically underserved by the health system. He directed a multi-billion dollar research portfolio aimed at understanding and eliminating health inequities.
In 2025, he received a Special Recognition Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), highlighting his decade of impact on minority health research and policy.
